Daniel Thys, M.D.

Chairman of the ILM Board of Advisors

 

Dr. Thys is one of the preeminent cardiothoracic anesthesiologists in the world. He is Professor Emeritus, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. From 1990 to 2008, Dr. Thys was Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center. He is former President of the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists, the National Board of Echocardiography, and the Association of Anesthesia Program Directors. From 1999 to 2002, he was Chair of the ASE/SCA Joint Task Force on Perioperative Echocardiography. He is a senior examiner with the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is the Editor in Chief of "Thys, Textbook of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology", and has authored or co-authored hundreds of peer-reviewed articles and textbook chapters. He has been a consultant for the National Institutes of Health, the National Medical Research Council of Canada, and the March of Dimes Foundation, as well as to Hewlett Packard and Acuson. He has served on the Board of Trustees of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center and has been a member of the Committees on Guidelines and Clinical Competence in Echocardiography for the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association. He has served on numerous other committees, scientific and editorial boards.

Dr. Thys has helped educate several generations of American anesthesiologists. His contributions to technology in the perioperative arena and to perioperative medicine are too numerous to mention in a brief paragraph. 

He is National Director of the Navy League of the United States and Trustee of the Naval War College Foundation.

Dr. Thys received his medical degree from the Katholieke Universiteit, Leuven, Belgium, and is an anesthesiology graduate of The Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY, and cardiac anesthesiology graduate of The Presbyterian Hospital, New York, NY.

 

Barb McLaughlin

Barb McLaughlin is the Senior Vice President and a Principal in the healthcare division of Smart Source LLC. She is known for her laser focus on powerful personal communications. Barb is the inventor and patent holder for the HandHolder™ product and has a unique knowledge of how to help healthcare organizations excel in patient communications, to dramatically improve patient satisfaction – a primary component of the perfect patient experience.

Barb has been a guest speaker at many national healthcare conferences and organizational meetings on the topic of Integrated Patient Communications. She is a well recognized business leader, with an impressive coast to coast client list including 6 of the top 10 hospitals in the U.S. She has published in the European Health Management Journal, the Journal of Management & Marketing in Healthcare, and has numerous published articles for the Health Management Finance Association.

 

Tom D’Agostino Jr.

Tom D’Agostino Jr. is the President and CEO of Smart Source, LLC.  Tom has spent his entire career building and managing Print Companies, with special emphasis on business process outsourcing. He was a founder of the once largest publicly traded print outsourcer in America, Workflow Management, Inc. He served as the company’s President since inception. Prior to that, until 1997 he served as President to Hano Document Printers, which was America’s oldest Print Manufacturing Company (founded in 1888). Tom has also focused on building technological and operational support services for other print companies, and served as President and CEO of iGetSmart.com (a subsidiary of Workflow). In this capacity, Tom gained the experience as a Service Bureau Provider outsourcing accounting, technology and fulfillment for other Print companies. 

Tom is the quintessential business executive who knows how to build and grow extremely successful companies from the ground up. Having started Smart Source in 2003 as a concept, the company now has coast-to-coast sales and marketing offices and a growth pattern that has it listed as one of the fasted growing companies in the industry with revenues in excess of fifty million dollars. One of the fastest growing segments of Smart Source is the Healthcare Division, which owns the patent pending product HandHolder™ that is implemented in 6 of the top 10 hospitals in the U.S.

 

Steven Elms

Mr. Elms is a Managing Partner with Aisling Capital. Previously, he was a Principal in the Life Sciences Investment Banking Group of Hambrecht & Quist. During his five years at H & Q, Mr. Elms was involved in over 60 financing and M&A transactions, helping clients raise in excess of $3.3 billion in capital. His previous healthcare sector experience includes over two years as a pharmaceutical sales representative for Marion Laboratories and two years as a consultant for The Wilkerson Group.

Mr. Elms currently serves as a director of ADMA Biologics, Inc., Advion BioSciences, Inc., Ambit Biosciences Corporation, CeNeRx BioPharma, Inc., LensAR, Inc., Next Wave Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Pernix Therapeutics, Inc., Scerene Healthcare, Inc. and Tria Beauty, Inc. Previously he served as a director of Archemica Cooperatief U.A., Avera Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Bioenvision, Inc., and Novazyme Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and was Chairman of the Board of Adams Respiratory Therapeutics, Inc., MAP Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Oculex Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Mr. Elms received his M.B.A. from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and his B.A. in Human Biology from Stanford University.

 

Ilian Petrov

Mr. Petrov is founder of Pi Capital LLC. He has a BA in Economics and an M.B.A. in Finance from Columbia University. He has more than 15 years of investment experience across equities, fixed income, currencies, and alternative assets. He has worked in New York and London at top global investment banks such as Merrill Lynch, Bank of America and Barclays Capital. 

While in London between 2006 and 2009, Ilian was Manager of Emerging Market Multi-Asset Sales for Barclays Capital. He built BarCap's structured product distribution to financial institutions across the Central Balkans and the Baltics. Most recently, Ilian founded his own introducing broker business, connecting investment banks and hedge funds with institutional and high net worth clients across the globe. In addition to his financial market expertise, he has a passionate interest in technology and has helped with the business development of several IT firms.
